Previously Released MoviePals Projects

These are legacy projects created by the MoviePals staff and lead to the creation of MoviePals Entertainment and the ideas behind the Open Cinema Movement. The quality of these projects may be considerably lower than our current productions, may contain old or outdated logos and other imperfections.  We continue to host them on this site for the enjoyment of our members.  Some of these have been seen millions of times and mentioned in the independent and mainstream press.  We hope you enjoy them.

The Boy Who Never Slept

MoviePals has already produced two feature films through open cinema collaboration.  The first was The Boy Who Never Slept, a romantic drama about an insomniac who meets a teenage girl online and forms a relationship which starts sweetly but takes a turn towards tragedy.   The film garnered international attention for its open source nature: the entirety of the raw footage was made available for anyone to edit and to make their own cut of the film.

Jathia's Wager

Following the success of The Boy Who Never Slept, director Solomon Rothman went in a totally new direction with Jathia’s Wager, a sci-fi drama about a young idealist living in an isolated community of humans, who must make a life-changing decision about his future and his species.  This film took the open source concept to the next level by involving the online community in the screenwriting process.  Collaboration was also expanded in the shooting and post- production aspects of the film, involving a special effects team and a voice actor.
