the-messengers2.jpg "There is evidence to suggest that children are highly susceptible to paranormal phenomena. They see what adults cannot. They believe what adults deny. And they are trying to warn us." 'The Messengers' by Oxide Pang Chun and Danny Pang is a modern horror movie following the lives of a Chicago family as they realise that making the move to a new house in the country may not be quite all its cracked up to be. The Movie gets off to a promising start, and I must admit I was actually pretty scared by a couple of the early sequences, which were full on action right from the word go, but about half an hour or so in it all seems to go completely off track and turns from an edge of your seat horror to a barely scary mish mash of plotlines and idea's. The acting through out the whole film is fairly wooden from most of the cast, Kristen Stewart, Dylan McDermott and Penelope Ann Miller all gave fairly average performances and John Corbett was about the only one who had any remotely decent scenes in the whole film!

One of the highlights for me was an appearance from William B Davis (Cancer Man from X Files) although I'm still a little unsure as to what his actual purpose in the film was other than to stand around looking creepy. Plus the fact that I kept expecting him to pull out a cigarette any minute and light up didn't help concentration issues much either. *Possible Spoilers Ahead* The movie seemed to have several huge plot holes, and the ending made no sense to me whatsoever! For example, if the ghosts had been there all that time waiting for John why didn't they make more of an effort to get him sooner? Why terrorise the rest of the family, drag them down into the cellar and generally scare the living daylights out of them if the main aim of the game all along was to punish John for what he had done to them? Also, in the final scenes when the dad gets hit with a pitchfork how the hell does he manage to get up and have a good old wander around without A) Bleeding to death and B) Crying out in agony? He seems to be in quite a bit of pain when he's taken to the ambulance at the end but obviously it didn't hurt that much at the time *shrugs* Overall, as you can probably tell I'm really disappointed with this movie, I would have liked to have seen more attention to details regarding the plotline and continuity and better acting from the cast. The ending really did let this film down and in my opinion ruined what was actually a pretty great first half an hour of viewing. I did enjoy The Messengers,

I did enjoy The Messengers, it isn't the best movie in the world, but I did jump a couple of times, although it takes alot to scare me movie wise nowadays.I actually thought Kristen Davies did a decent job, I certainly got her fear, frustration and helplessness.
The two things that creeped me out were the the crows, especially the attack and some of the scenes with the toddler, you almost thought he could really see something.I am glad I seen the movie, there is holes in the plot such as,why are the ghosts attacking the family, when they need their help, although if they died in violent circumstances, I guess they won't know any different.

I actually disagree with

I actually disagree with almost everything you said however, I can completely understand where you can see some of the things. The acting is not exactly jaw-dropping, but for a scary movie I thought it was rather good. I think they built the actors did well with building up their characters. They definately displayed a parent teen relation ship well(being a teen I noticed quite a few things). I really enjoyed the story and thought the ending was great. The ghosts coudn't get to John clearly they were trapped in the house where they were killed. And them scaring the family was the ghosts trying to show them what happened to them so that they could help get revenge on John. And about the dad getting stabed with a pitch fork yes it is a bit of a stretch that he would be able to get up. Yet I wouldn't call what he did wondering, he was saving his daughters life so I'm sure no matter how dramatic and over the top it may seem it just shows how much he cared about her that he tried to save her while bearing a usually fatal 3 prong stab to major organs.
