Make Movies

Want to be a part of Open Cinema?  It’s extremely difficult to break in at a typical Hollywood company, even if you have something they want.  As the old adage goes, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.  At MoviePals, we reverse the natural order and proclaim that IS about what you know (or do, or have).  If you’d like to be a part of a MoviePals production, you can submit your talents and/or resources to our Contributions  page in six easy steps.

What are "Contributions"?

Contributions encompass a wider umbrella of actions that help us than official Tasks. By entering contributions, you may suggest or offer to lend out equipment or props, provide locations, or work with the crew by contributing your talents and skills. There are many other ways to help contribute to the success of Open Cinema.

6 Easy Steps to Contribute

  1. Join the Mob by opening a MoviePals account.
  2. Go to the Contributions page.
  3. Select the Contribution Type from the drop down menu and enter a short description of what you’re offering.
  4. Fill out the address and phone number of your home or business, whichever is more relevant to your prospective contribution
  5. Enter a fuller description of your contribution.
  6. When completed, scroll to the bottom and click the "Save" button. If a production needs what you’ve got to offer, we will contact you and arrange to use it in the project. Once we’ve used your contribution, you may submit it as a Task, at which time you will gain revenue sharing points, enabling you to reap a share of whatever advertising revenue is raised by the production.

What are "Tasks"?

Under MoviePals, a Task is an action performed in service of one our projects listed under our official task menu.  For example, acting would be considered a task, as well as directing, boom mic operation, or any other task performed in  production.  In addition, some contributions are considered tasks under our system.  For example, if you provide us with a shooting location, that counts as a task which you can submit for revenue sharing points.  Lending of special equipment would also qualify as an official task.  The point of the task system is to break the Hollywood mold and establish a true meritocracy, where participants are rewarded fairly according to the amount and importance of work done for the project.

8 Simple Steps to Submit a Task

  1. Review and sign the Revenue Share Agreement
  2. Go to the Submit Tasks page.
  3. Select the project you contributed to, down to the specific episode.
  4. Select the type of contribution you made from the drop down menu
  5. Enter a title and description of your task.
  6. Enter the date when the task was completed.
  7. Select the value and difficulty of the task.*
  8. Once complete, submit the Task.

Your task will be converted to points, which will be added to your total revenue share points, allowing you to claim a proportional share of the revenue of the show.  The more you do, and the more essential each contribution is, the more you earn. Payments will be made via PayPal quarterly.  See the FAQ page and the Revenue Share Agreement for more details.

***Do your best to approximate.  We’ll correct mistakes as needed, as well as make sure no one is abusing the process.***

Other Ways to Contribute

First and foremost is watching and commenting on material produced. This helps us tremendously, not only in generating publicity for the show, but in gauging audience reaction to our project so we know what works and what doesn’t. Another contribution is of a more practical variety. This can be done in one of two ways. First, purchasing MoviePals memorabilia from our shop not only helps us continue in our Open Cinema endeavor, but also helps spread the word about who we are and what we’re trying to do. Secondly, a business wishing to show support for Open Cinema as well as reach millions of viewers can sponsor the show through ads, product placement, and other methods.  Finally, joining the Mob adds strength of numbers to the Open Cinema movement.
