Moved to Downtown LA

December 21, 2006

Live Work Loft Downtown LAA ton has happened to me in the last 30 days. I joined a new company called Social Media Systems with a group of other professional search marketers and web developers. We built a new website, (which I’m currently re-redesigning). Our blog got syndicated by WebProNews (ientry publication with millions of subscribers) within two weeks!!! With all this new work, I had to take a very temporary break from screenwriting and devote a bunch of time to jump starting this new business venture, but I should have some great writing time over the holidays.

THANKS to New Advertisers, I finally have a budget (of sorts) for another film

I’d like to thank everyone who has ever purchased a text ad on this site or PPC advertising (google adwords). Recently there has been an explosion of new advertisers, enough to produce another film with somewhat of a budget (still a no budget movie, but if this level of advertising continues I’ll have enough to pay for an HD camera, sound equipment, meals for the actors, etc)

Is Second Life a Creative Virtual World or Self Imposed Matrix?

December 21, 2006

When I was reading through the blog at Haxan films I ran into an interesting post about how the filmmaker is releasing a screening of the movie altered in “Second Life“, at a virtual drive up theater. Whoa, that’s weird, but cool, but weird. Releasing a real movie that no one has seen, to play in a virtual drive through theater, where virtual characters will watch it on screen with humans sited at computers watching it under the persona of their Second Life character.

Crazy stuff. I’ve been seeing the online interactive video game universe known as Second Life pop up increasingly often on CNN, and wired news and decided to give it a bit of thought on this post. Part of me sees the trend as a disturbing regression into a fake or virtual world, like a self imposed matrix and stirs up some haunting images that would work well in a sci-fi / horror film and would prob dark uses of technology.

Altered Movie DVD Release | Blair Witch Creator Depressed

December 21, 2006

Remember Blair Witch? The unknown filmmakers, who with a budget of barley over $20,000 created one of the highest grossing independent films of all time. What a story and I’m not talking about the movie which I personally found to be an incredible bore. I’m talking about the Cinderella story of how the filmmakers took an innovative movie idea and created something so successful, got themselves on time magazine, and sparked a cultural phenomenon.

I remember reading many accounts of the filmmakers journey, before I ever saw their movie. The mention in the book “What they don’t teach you in film school” was especially inspiring to me, even after I watched and didn’t like the completed film.

The movie Boy Who Never Slept will get some exposure in an upcoming documentary tentatively entitled “indie sex2″, which explores how sexuality is portrayed in independent cinema. This film will play on the IFC (Independent Film Chanel) as well as be distributed on DVD and I can’t wait to see it!
