Company History

The Inspiration for MoviePals began in 2006 with the pioneering open source film, The Boy Who Never Slept.  The film’s auteur, Solomon Rothman, released the film which to date has received millions of views online.  The film was completed in an amazingly short, three-month timeframe with a tiny budget of just $200. Rothman was able to accomplish this with the help of a collaborative film-making team and then decided to make the raw footage available for download; allowing anyone to edit the film and to put their own spin on it.   The film and its follow-up, Jathia’s Wager, have received international attention, with mentions on AMCtv.com, Wikipedia, and Linux Insider.

Rothman has since been joined by partner Brian Bentow, and the two formed MoviePals Open Cinema.  Together they conceived their latest open cinema project, Mob Mentality, a web series involving interwoven stories and plotlines that spans cultures and continents. (Watch the trailer here).   This series is to be the flagship project of MoviePals Entertainment and the Mob, a grassroots movement to bring the control of filmmaking directly to the people.
